Elevator Pitch

Sparkle up a magical unicorn out of our craft tubes!

This Craft Makes: 

We’re going to make magical unicorns out of craft tubes! Give them a mane and a tail and a horn that glitters, and then bling them up (unicorns love sparkles)!

Supplies: 

Purchased Supplies:

  • Colored paper
    • Pre-cut to the correct size to cover craft tubes (5″ tall by 6″ long)
    • Consider pre-cut ears (rounded triangles) and ear centers (smaller)
  • Glue
  • Glue dots
  • Craft Tubes
  • Glitter Foam 
    • Consider pre-cutting unicorn horns versus not
  • Rainbow Yarn
  • Sequins – from Shared DIY

Motley Kids Non-Consumable Supplies

  • Scissors
  • Markers

Steps to Make It

  1. Wrap colored paper around the craft tube and secure the ends with glue or tape. Fold the excess in on the top and bottom and crease. 
  2. Make a mane and tail
    1. Wrap rainbow yarn around your palm and fingers until you have a thick ring of colored yarn.
    2. Tie the middle of the ring of yarn snugly with another piece of yarn.
    3. Cut through the loops on one end of the yarn. 
    4. Tie the middle of the UNCUT side with another short piece of yarn
    5. Cut the loops at the end of that side
    6. Cut just above the middle tie to make two bundles of yarn, one shorter than the other.
  3. Use a glue dot to attach the short bundle of yarn inside the TOP of the craft tube so that it hangs out over the top. This is your unicorn’s mane. It hangs over the FRONT like bangs.
  4. Use a glue dot to attach the long bundle of yarn to the MIDDLE of the BACK of the craft tube on the outside. This is your unicorn’s tail. 
  5. Cut (if not already done) a horn from glitter foam and stick it inside the craft tube. You can either stick it to the mane or you can part the unicorn’s mane around it.
  6. Cut (if not already done) and assemble your ears. 
    • You can pinch the bottoms of these together to make them extra standy if you like
  7. Glue the ears inside the craft tube on either side of the mane. 
  8. Give your unicorn a face!

  • Prep work ahead of time: 
    • Cut colored paper to fit craft tubes (5″ x6″)
    • Cut ears
    • Cut ear centers
    • Cut horns from glitter foam
