Steps to Make It
Make the T-shirt yarn (one shirt makes a LOT of yarn)
- Lay your T-shirt out flat on the table like you’re going to fold it
- Cut off the T-shirt just below the arms (if there is a design, cut below it if possible).
- Cut the hem off the T-shirt
- Turn your T-shirt 90 degrees so the folds are at the bottom and the top
- Cut 1″ wide strips from the bottom of the T-shirt up to about 1″ from the top (do NOT cut all the way up)
- Once you have cut all the strips, pick up your T-shirt and go to the uncut fold. You will be cutting diagonally to connect the strips into one long cut.
- Make a diagonal cut from the edge of the T-shirt to the top of the first cut.
- Continue to make diagonal cuts until you have the whole T-shirt cut into one long strip
- Working your way down the strip, pull the fabric so it curls in on itself.
Make the pompoms
- Wrap the yarn around your fingers (at least 2, but 4 is fine) until you have a pretty big bundle and cut off the extra
- Cut a good sized piece and tie it tightly around the middle of the bundle (you may need an extra set of hands) before taking it off your fingers
- Cut the loops of the pompom and fluff
- Trim if needed
Decorate your monsters!
