Craft-Along Character Challenge

Elevator Pitch

The Motley Kids are doing a construction challenge and we’re inviting you along! In this Craft-along we’re going to make some modeling dough and then challenge you to make some of our favorite storybook moments!

This is a messy craft because we’re making modeling dough. Be ready for sticky hands and protect your workspace and clothes!

This Craft Makes:

This is the description of the craft (with pictures)

Supplies:

You will need:

  • 1/2 cup flour
  • 1-2 ounces of water
  • 2-3 teaspoons of cooking oil
  • 1/4 cup salt
  • Food coloring (if you want)
  • A bowl to mix in
  • A spoon or fork to mix with
  • A play space !

You may also want:

  • A plastic baggie or airtight container to store your dough in
  • Beads, sequins, gems, sticks, or small rocks to help with your modeling challenges!

Steps to Make It

    1. Pour the water into a mixing bowl.
    2. Add food coloring and mix well.
    3. Add the flour and salt to the mix. Stir this to mix up the ingredients
    4. Next, add 2-3 teaspoons of oil. Add more oil later, if the mix seems too dry. Oil is the secret to keeping this “no cooking required” recipe soft. If you don’t add enough oil, the mix will be very crumbly.
    5. Now, begin mixing everything together. Knead the ingredients together until a soft dough is formed.
    6. If it’s sticky, add flour. If it’s crumbly, add oil. If it’s lumpy keep working on it.
